Cochi Kathakali and Cooking School

Wednesday, January 16

Wednesday afternoon I went for a long walk and then cooled off in the swimming pool while Shawne got and Aryuvedic massage, steam bath and scrub. To each their own.

Wednesday evening we went to a Kathakali show. Kathakali strikes me as being a lot like Japanese Kabuki with men in heavy costumes and makeup and slow stylistic acting. The actors say nothing though a singer maintains the story line Kathakali involves elaborate, funny eye movements and facial expressions.

First we watched them putting on their makeup and then the show. In one little skit the actor pantomimed a mother taking care of her infant. It was very funny.

After the show we went to the home of Nimmy and Paul. They are a very warm hearted couple and let us roam freely throughout there house to check things out. It was a very nice home. Nimmy teaches cooking and started with a short cooking demonstration. Then we had dinner with their guests for the evening, a bus load of folks from the USA. We had a pleasant chat comparing tour experiences and destinations in India. Overall a very nice evening. Nimmy’s web site is www.nimmypaul.com
